don't you love summer? especially
when the weather is hot...but not too hot.
well, i hope that you've been getting out of the house and frolicking around.
if not...you should...it'll add years back on to your life.
take a bike ride...call some friends for frisbee in the park...whatever.
live life...don't hear about it!
did i tell you i'm singing
with the nine live cats again?
here's the scoop on our gig...
::
Nine Live Cats ::
It's been two years since my last gig with the Cats...and i've sure missed it. The band is a blast to play with. We've got a lot of new members, so we've got a renewed excitement towards playing. The gigs are filled with great people anyway, so combine that with our excitement and you've got a potent evening of brass-kickin' rock'n'roll fun in store. The 4-piece horn section is brassy as ever and the rhythm section is fired up and ready to go.
If you haven't seen the band before, we play mostly classic rock-era brass-based rock and roll. So you'll hear standards like Brown Eyed Girl, Brick House, Mustang Sally and Honky Tonk Women. But things really get jumpin when we pull out classic cuts by Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tower of Power and Chicago. Then, just when you think you've got us figured out, we drop some U2 or Harry Connick Jr on you. (We even do a horn tune from the Beatles' White Album...can you guess it?) If you have seen the band before, be sure to hit the first set for the unveiling of a couple new additions.
Get there early for a good seat. Duggan's has deceptively fantastic food - you should consider planning to eat dinner there. Call your friends and tell the babysitter it's going to be a late night...the cats are on the prowl again.

:: Electric Soul Method ::
This is one of my favorite local bands and they've just gotten started. They're parts of Magnificent 7 and Animato. They play great funky, dance-friendly jams. There are some fantastic musicians on the stage, but I love when the turn the mic over to Laniece. She's got a sultry vixen voice that's as smooth as you'll find.

Seussical: The Musical ::
"After all those years
being stuck on a page,
Did you ever imagine you’d see me onstage?
Now I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue!
No, there’s no telling what!
But I’ll give you a clue..."
So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Once On This Island, Ragtime) have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville!
These classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! As each story unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss’s subtle themes are, making this a musical that appeals to all ages.
The score emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk! So let your toes tap, your fingers snap, and your imagination run wild!
"If you open your mind,
Oh, the thinks you will find
Lining up to get loose!
Oh, the thinks you can think!
Oh, the thinks you can think
When you think about Seuss!!"

:: Mineola
Twins ::
Sixteen Casters, Omaha's newest
theatre company, is excited to present a timely, heartfelt, and hilarious play
never before seen in Omaha. Renowned for winning the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for
Drama, Paula Vogel wrote this humorous send-up of American domestic politics
in the Cold War era. Dramatic in its subject, yet filled with the zany and absurd,
The Mineola Twins will make you think as you laugh your way through this comedy
in "six scenes, four dreams and seven wigs."
The Mineola Twins begins in the Fifties as two almost-identical twin sisters,
Myra and Myrna, lock horns over their differences. Myrna, the big-busted, conservative
sister loathes Myra's free-wheeling, rebellious lifestyle while Myra,the flat-chested
liberal sister, eagerly baits Myrna and eventually ends up sleeping with Myrna's
fiancé, Jim. This crushes Myrna's spirit as the placid Fifties gives
way to the countercultural Sixties. Ten years later, Myrna is a housewife while
Myra is on the run from the law. Kenny, Myrna's rebellious son, tries to help
his aunt Myra evade the law to no avail the Feds come busting in. The story
does not end there, however. Flash forward to 1989. Republicans are in the White
House, Rush rules the radio, and the Cold War has thawed. Myrna, now a conservative
talk show host, meets her sister's son Ben who chafes at his liberal upbringing,
much to her delight.
Still obsessed with Myra, she disguises herself as her sister and plants a bomb
at the abortion clinic where Myra works. After meeting Myra's lesbian lover,
Sarah, Myrna cries out in remorse to her sister to escape just as the bomb explodes.
Later, in dreams, the two reconcile with each other and meld into one soul
acceptance at last. It features Sarah Lynn Brown in the dual roles of Myra and
Myrna with Amie James and Brandon Rohe portraying the many characters that live
in Myra and Myrna's world. The Mineola Twins is directed by Susann Suprenant.

Dorian Michael, fingerstyle guitarist ::
Dorian Michael has been playing guitar long enough to know better. In over 35 years of guitar as a profession he has played plenty of blues and folk, jazz and rock and roll. So when he plays as an acoustic soloist he describes his music as "contemporary traditional", original music that reflects his interest in a number of styles of music. These influences come through in his original material, but it is a contemporary music that grows from, rather than mimics, those influences. There is an integrity and clarity to his work.
Dorian has two cds and a dvd to his credit. He has traveled the western states playing any and all venues and this year had the pleasure of performing at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival.
Dorian is also the author
of two books on alternate guitar tunings published by Centerstream Publishing.
He lives in the country
in central California in a very old cabin that leans slightly to the northeast.
