:: vinx ::

this guy gets a special announcement because it is such a special event.

i saw vinx when he played at the omaha healing arts center a few months ago.
it was one of the most intimate music gatherings i've ever attended.
those of us who were there felt privileged.
it was like a beautiful secret that we got to share.
but in addition to that, vinx enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
the intimate setting in that beautiful space with the warm audience
made for truly magical music.
he recognized it.
he loved it.
he felt comfortable enough to take some risks
by rearranging a song on the spot with
spontaneous and gorgeous results.
he said he was excited to come back.
and only

i asked a couple of people for 2-3 sentences about their vinx experience.
gary couldn't do it. he needed more words. here's what my friend gary had to
say...

"I'm often tempted by Matt's enthusiastic endorsement of certain musical
artists. Often schedules, or occasionally inertia, cause me to miss these
events. In the case of Vinx, there was a timely convergence of Matt's
description, our availability, and our enthusiasm. And it was very well worth
it. Vinx is one those persons who has found a very unique way to give voice
to the rhythms & melodies of his soul.

"He plays various African drums in an unconventional style, and with high
virtuosity. His resonant vocals tell looping, winding, funny, fiery, cosmic
stories. And then, with his feet, he sets his sampling technology in motion, and he
builds a complete a cappella choir with just his own voice, setting a funky bass
line with his baritone, syncopated backing vocals with his tenor, and a few other
rhythmic cycles and textures. Each song in a Vinx concert is one-of-a-kind,
and he's certainly a one-of-a-kind performer. He's very relaxed and
entertaining on stage, and interactive and warm to his audience.

"I highly recommend taking the time to spend an evening with Vinx in the
cozy and welcoming space of the Omaha Healing Arts Center."

tickets are $15 in advance and $18 day of show - and he *will* sell out.
the concert is this saturday (nov 16) at 8pm, so call today for
reservations.
you'll have to send a check in the mail.
but this slight hassle will be worth it.
i promise.

he's also hosting a drumming circle on sunday from 1-4pm.
the cost is $25 in advance, $35 the day of the workshop.
